Sachin Tendulkar Leaves Kerala Blasters!
It was heard on the grapevine, but now Sachin Tendulkar has confirmed that he is parting ways with the professional football club Kerala Blasters FC. The remaining three shareholders have agreed to buy his twenty per cent stake in the club as is revealed in most Indian newspapers today. Times of India quoted Tendulkar as saying “I am very proud of Kerala blasters and a piece of my heart will always beat for them.” source The South Indian Club had in included blasters in their name to honour Tendulkar who was widely referred to as the ‘Master Blaster’. In 2014 Tendulkar along with entrepreneur Prasad v Potluri won the rights for the Kochi based franchise. The fans of Kerala Blasters are called the ‘yellow brigade’ and doted much on Tendulkar and he was seen in attendance for many of their matches both at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Kochi and away. In the four seasons that Kerala Blasters have participated in the ISL championships, the inaugural season of 2014 has by far seen their best performance. In the semi-finals of this edition, they defeated Chennaiyin FC 4-3, recovering from a 0-3 loss at home in the first leg. They lost a well-contested final 0-1 to ATK of Kolkata. Finishing last in the league of 2015, Kerala Blasters rebounded again in 2016 to reach the finals. This year they again lost to ATK on penalties. In 2017-18 the blasters finished sixth on the league table. Tendulkar with Kerala Blasters players source The Kerala club has seen shuffles in ownership before. Tendulkar had the controlling stake initially with 40 per cent. Thereafter he relinquished 20 per cent of his stake. Though there were rumours of more new partners, they have been snuffed out with the existing shareholders IQuest, Chiranjeevi and Allu Arvind agreeing to absorb Tendulkar’s share of the franchise.
